Well at long last some of the interviews and book reviews are rolling
in. I am pleased to say that the loverly Phil Brown of the Brisbane News
interviewed me. Phil and I had loads in common - can you believe he
was brought up in the East (Hong Kong) before he came to Australia. Wow
- some people have such exciting lives. We swapped lots of travel
stories. Which was very handy as he could recommend some great travel
tips which I will use in my new travel segment - first one is tomorrow
morning (13th Feb) at 10am in Australia. If you want to keep abreast of
my travel tips please visit my travel blogsite.
BTW Phil has the coolest reading glasses (see his picture in his column at Brisbane News) and
I'm gonna get me a pair of them babies. I'm heavily into geek eyewear
and the fabo ones I bought in Shanghai disintegrated on me. Shanghai is THE place for cheap glasses and if you spend more than AUD700 on a pair here then I suggest you combine holidaying with eyewear purchasing. But at least
now I know that I like that style. I'm interested in the Clearly Contacts
website - I've never ordered glasses online -- their prices are so
reasonable that I will definitely give them a try. I missed the last special
because of the flood in Brisbane so I'm hanging out for their next
one.

History to Shanghai Street Style Series
In 2011 Intellect Books approached Vicki Karaminas and asked her if she would be willing to do a street style book.
Vicki (then Exec Director of Popular Culture Association of Australasia) called me and we talked. I happened to be going to Taiwan as the keynote speaker for the new South East Asia Popular Culture Association. And, as those of you who know your geography know, Taiwain is a skip and a jump from Shanghai. It meant that we could save on airfares. Soit was decided that I would spend ten days in Shanghai gathering the shots and gathering the data (ie interviewing).
We found a fantastic photographer Fung Chan throuigh our favourite Hong Kong colleague Anne Pierson-Smith.
Armed with a list of questions and a few local contacts, I landed in Shanghai in September 2011. I met with Eike Stratmann (who publishes the ultimate guides to Shanghai art galleries and fashion hotspots in her Detour Maps) in the bar of the wonderful Langham Hotel. (Shot of a typical Langham room taken from its website).
Next day Fung and I were off to explore the s/teaming streets of Shanghai.
Book of the Month
Can you believe it - our book has scarcely hit the shelves and already we are book of the month in the UK...okay it's only one website but I don't think I've been book of the month for any of my books ever!
Yes if you click here you will see that we are the book of the month for December.
Those of you in the rest of the world will have to wait a little longer...we are not anticipating launches until March next year. In Washington, DC. So if you are in Washington DC-- email me and I can send you an invitation.
Just to whet your whistle -- here is another fanbtabulouso shot-- taken on The Bund by our intrepid photograph Fung Chan. Fashion shots in posts to come....

Welcome!
Due to popular demand we (Vicki Karaminas and I) decided that our brand new book deserved a brand new blogging site.
This page will probably be open for 2013 only -- because by then our next book MUMBAI will be released and it will have its own blogger's page. Phew.
Anyway this blog introduces a new series of books by Intellect Books (UK).
The books are fantastic (even if we do say so ourselves) captures of street fashion in the hottest fashion spaces in the WORLD.
So please feel free to read, leave comments and buy our books.
Don't you think the cover of Shanghai Street Style is just wonderful?
